Kazakhstan lost 8 positions in world competitiveness rating

19 June 2020

Kazakhstan has lost eight positions in the world ranking of the competitiveness of economies, Astana TV reports.
International Institute for Management Development has published new data. Experts believe that it will be worse.
The decline in oil prices and high unemployment rate of last year has worsened. According to economist Meruert Makhmutova, given the situation with coronavirus pandemic, Kazakhstan could soon seriously lose ground.
The rating result, she said, is based on data from last year. Statistically, they were not bad, the economy was growing. The loss of position from 34th to 42nd place does not really reflect the current state of the economy. Meruert Makhmutova believes that we will roll back to the end of the list.
In the TOP - 10 are Singapore, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands and others. But our country still managed to slightly get ahead of the closest neighbors - Russia and Ukraine. They are in the fiftieth and fifty-fifth places respectively. In total, 63 countries are represented in the world ranking of the competitiveness of economies.
