Abstract: The theory of "national self-determination" and "high degree of autonomy" are both important issues in the theory of ethnic politics as well as highly controversial academic problems. It is also the real political issues in the contemporary world. The "East Turkistan" forces often carry out ethnic separatist activities under the banner of " national self-determination" and "high degree of autonomy", which is an issue that we can ’ t shy away from before. Therefore, it is of great significance in theory to understand the ins and outs of these two theories and to expose the actual harm caused by the "East Turkistan" separatist forces to advocate these two theories, which is crucial to the current ideological anti-separatist struggle and the maintenance of social stability and long-term peace and stability in Xinjiang. The paper concludes that ethnic independence is the end of national self-determination. To advocate " ethnic self-determination" in Xinjiang is to engage in ethnic separatism and demand "high degree of autonomy" in Xinjiang. That is only one step away from ethnic division.
